Welcome to RochesterCastle.com, a website maintained by a local resident who enjoys this great and historic castle.

Located in North Kent, Rochester Castle stands tall and proud next to the River Medway. With a history stretching back to the year 1066, the Castle was purchased by the City of Rochester in 1884 for the sum of £6,572 and today it continues to dominate the landscape and attracts visitors from around the World.

Sitting just off Rochester's High Street, the Castle grounds are open all year but are closed during the hours of darkness. Entry to the grounds is free of charge but entry to the Castle itself is charged at £5.50 (visit the official English Heritage site for the latest fees). Once inside the grounds, the wide open grass area is clean and well kept and large old trees provide shelter from the sun (or rain). Refreshments are available from the small kiosk in the corner of the grounds.

Rochester itself is has an interesting High Street full of small local shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. The High Street is closed to vehicular traffic during the day every Saturday so locals and visitors alike can wonder calmly between the shops.

Along with its sister towns of Chatham and Gillingham, Rochester forms part of Medway - a unitary authority which is unfortunately failled in its application to be granted city status in 2012.

On this site, you'll find a number of photographs of the Castle including some in scrollable/zoomable format - use your mouse to navigate around these panoramic photographs. In addition to the photographs, I've provided some other bits and pieces - information which you may find useful in planning your trip to Rochester or to help you find out more about this historic building.
